Peculiar Statement on Cass County Health Department Order

Following the presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Cass County and the possibility of other cases throughout our region, Cass County Health Department Director Andrew Warlen has issued a Public Health Emergency Order.

Starting (12:01 a.m., Wednesday, March 18) the Order prohibits all public gatherings of 10 or more until 12:01 a.m., Wednesday, April 1. However, based on CDC recommendations, we strongly encourage residents and businesses to be prepared for possible extensions of these prohibitions.

The Order further defines that a gathering does not include normal operations at spaces where persons may be in transit or coming and going individually or in groups of fewer than 10.

The Order will allow the continued operation of governmental and judicial functions, daycare facilities, grocery stores, pharmacies, healthcare facilities and private businesses. All businesses that can continue regular operations should proceed with appropriate CDC recommended precautions.

The Order declares that all restaurants, dining facilities, bars, taverns, clubs, and movie theaters in the County are to be closed to the public. Restaurants may continue to provide curbside, drive-through, and delivery services.

The City of Peculiar has already taken substantial precautionary steps to continue essential services that limit personal contact where possible.

We understand the County’s Order represents a sacrifice for everyone in our community. However, these measures are intended to ensure the public health and to avoid the expansion or prolonging of these directives.

The City of Peculiar will continue to participate in daily discussions with our area partners to address the latest guidance and CDC recommendations.

The Missouri DHSS has established a 24-hour hotline operated by medical professionals. Anyone with questions or concerns about the coronavirus is urged to call the hotline at 877-435-8411. Because we are not medical professionals, we encourage everyone to use this resource or contact your medical provider rather than calling the City or County.
