In recent years, the City of Peculiar has been studying its sanitary sewer collection system to identify portions of sewer system that may need to be upgraded. A list of proposed capital improvements have been identified that would increase system capacity and prevent sewer backups. Based on some preliminary design work, your property (see attached drawing map) may be affected by one of these proposed capital improvements
In our continuing effort to provide a safe, affordable sanitary sewer collection system to our residents, the City of Peculiar is pursuing five (5) sanitary relief sewer projects. To accomplish this, Peculiar will need to construct five (5) sanitary relief sewer projects that carry flow east beneath I-49, then southeast to the East Lift Station located on E. 223rd Street. The areas affected are shown on the attached drawing map.
In order to complete our evaluation of the five (5) sanitary relief sewer routes, it will be necessary for us to survey and perform environmental assessment along the route. We are requesting your patience and assistance as we complete this work.
Please be assured that prior to any construction, landowners will be contacted to discuss necessary easements.
On February 21, 2017, the City hired George Butler Associates (GBA) to produce the necessary engineering drawings. The City is currently looking at financing options that could lead to actual construction within the next one to three years. There are many factors that could affect this construction schedule, but the Board of Aldermen has made the decision to go ahead with the design work.
Beginning the week of March 6th (weather permitting) and to start their design, GBA must first perform some surveying and soil testing at potential project sites. The City has authorized GBA to perform this surveying work and has instructed their crew(s) to always carry documentation to that effect. As the design progresses, you may be contacted again by the City about a permanent and/or temporary easement.
As indicated above, the City has employed GBA to provide engineering and surveying services for the design of the proposed five (5) . The survey along this corridor may require employees of GBA and/or a representative completing an environmental assessment to enter your yard or property. These individuals are directed to take care of their actions when on the property including keeping gates closed, avoiding damage to crops, livestock, fences, landscaping, and driveways. This phase of the project will require the setting of temporary survey stakes. However, if these are an obstacle to your use of your property, please feel free to remove them.
It’s only natural that you would have questions related to this sanitary sewer main work. You may contact the City Engineer at 816-779-2228 or at “firstname.lastname@example.org”.
This project is of great importance to the future of the City and is the result of careful consideration by the City staff, the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen. Also, the City does not take it lightly that certain property owners may be inconvenienced during this process. We ask for your assistance and patience, and we promise to maintain good lines of communication as the project moves along.
The areas affected can be seen here.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
