FILING FOR OFFICE – GENERAL INFORMATION
Elected Officials and Length of Term
The Mayor, and six Aldermen are the City's elected officials. Two Aldermen are elected from each of the City's three Wards and serve staggered terms. The City's general election is non-partisan. The term of office is two years for all elected officials.
Filing for Candidacy
General elections are held the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April each year. Filing for elected official candidacy is done at the City Clerk’s office during normal business hours, Monday through Friday at City Hall Municipal Offices located at 250 s. Main Street, peculiar, Missouri. The filing fee is $10.00 and is payable at the time of filing. The filing period begins the 16th Tuesday before the election and closes the 11th Tuesday before the election. The City Clerk's office is closed from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily for lunch. City offices are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and days designated as holidays by the City.
Filing Period for the April 7, 2015, General Election of Three Aldermen:
Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 8:00 a.m., through Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 5:00 p.m.
City Offices will be closed Wednesday, December 24, 2014, and Thursday, December 25, 2014; and Thursday, January 1, 2015, and Monday, January 19, 2015 during the filing period.
Withdrawal of a Candidate
Candidates who wish to withdraw may do so by filing their notice of withdrawal with the City Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the 11th Tuesday before the election. The filing fee is not refundable in case of withdrawal of a candidate.
Qualifications for Elective Office
The minimum qualifications for each office are listed below. The qualifications are set by State and City law.
Must be at least 25 years of age.
Must be U.S. citizen.
Must be resident of peculiar at the time of and at least 1 year before election.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be resident of the ward from which elected.
